Steel twin screw motor vessel built in 1998 by Astilleros Españoles (AESA), Puerto Real, Spain (Yard No 77) as a RoRo/Train Ferry.

History

The world’s largest multi-purpose RoRo/Train Ferry designed by Knud E. Hansen.

August 9th 1997:  Launched.

March 28th 1998: Christened.

May 1998: Aborted trials owing to engine problems. Returned to yard for repairs.

June 22nd 1998: Delivered to SweFerry Ab, Helsingborg. (C/O Wilmington Trust, USA).

June 1998: Arrived Trelleborg and laid over until going to Fredericia Skibsværft A/S, Fredericia for completion.

August 7th 1998:  Scandlines services Trelleborg – Rostock.

November 16th 1999:  Sold SweFerry Ab to Stena Line Ab, Gothenburg.

December 1999:  Scandlines A/S reports SweFerry and Stena Line to the District Court because they claim that they have a right of first refusal on the Swedish part of Scandlines.

July 2000: Ruling in the arbitration panel judges that Stena has the right to buy SweFerry from SJ.

December 23rd 2001: Arrived at Cityvarvet for refitt.

January 6th 2002: Left  Gothenburg for Trelleborg and return to service.

July 24th 2006  – July 26th 2006: Services Trelleborg – Mukran.

July 27th 2006: Services Trelleborg – Rostock.

December 22nd 2009: Registered to Scandlines Ab, Trelleborg

March 1st 2012: In collision with the Bahamas-flagged cargo ARKLOW SPIRIT on the Breitling between Rostock Seaport and Warnemunde. Both ships were damaged, no spills reported, no injuries. She was able to resume her voyage to Trelleborg 90 minutes after the accidents after investigations were completed.

October 4th 2012: Registered owner, Stena Line Öresund Ab, Helsingborg.

January 10th 2022 – February 5th 2022: Refit.

February 5th 2022: Returned to service Rostock – Trelleborg.

April 15th 2023: During a service from Rostock to Trelleborg, a lorry was in danger of rolling into the sea. A tractor unit  with a semi-trailer was parked on the open deck. The driver had apparently forgotten to apply the handbrake and the truck rolled so that the entire cab hung out over the starboard side aft. Rescue services and police were notified at 04.20. The ferry docked in Trelleborg at 05.35. There were 299 passengers and 45 crew members on board. No one was injured. All passengers and vehicles were taken ashore. The truck was recovered.

September 8th 2024: Arrived Remontowa, Gdansk for refit.

September 29th 2024: Left Gdansk.

September 30th 2024: Arrived Trelleborg.

October 1st 2024: Resumed service Trelleborg – Rostock.
