History

Ordered as SUPERSTAR CAPRICORN for Star Cruises but, transferred to Norwegian Crises during construction.

September 1st 2001: Keel laid.

June 1st 2002: Launched.

December 3rd 2002: Delivered to Norwegian Cruise Line, Nassau, Bahamas.

December 5th 2002: Arrived in Southampton December 5th, a day ahead of schedule for a two day stopover for travel industry and media celebrations. The new German-built ship features controversial hull murals of dolphins and the statue of liberty, as well as signatures of famous painters, a reference to the valuable art collection that she carries on board.

December 7th 2002: Departed on a transatlantic crossing to New York.

December 16th 2002: Naming ceremony held in New York. Kim Cattrall, Golden Globe and Emmy-nominated actress from the popular US TV show “Sex and the City” named as Godmother.

December 21st 2002: Cruising from Miami to the Caribbean.

April 15th 2005: Hit by a rogue wave during very rough weather on her return to New York. As the conditions seemingly improved at daybreak, the NCL ship was hit by a freak wave that broke windows in two separate cabins. 62 cabins were flooded and 4 passengers were reported injured. She was diverted to Charleston, South Carolina for repairs and passengers whose cabins were flooded were being flown home from Charleston. The ship continued to New York.
