History

“Viking Star- class” designed by an interior design team of London-based SMC Design, and Los Angeles-based Rottet Studios. The first of the series, “Viking Star”, was built at the shipyard in Marghera and delivered in 2015. The other units, “Viking Sea”, “Viking Sky”, “Viking Sun”, “Viking Orion”, “Viking Jupiter” and “Viking Venus”,  handed over between 2016 and 2021 were all built at the Ancona yard.

October 18th 2017: Keel struck.

May 10th 2018: Floated out.

February 8th 2019: Viking Jupiter delivered to Viking River Cruises Inc.

February 14th 2019: On her maiden cruise, collided with pier while berthing at Piraeus, Greece, with 607 passengers on board. Ship sustained stb damage above waterline, including a small breach of some 10 cm. She was assisted by tugs during mooring, strong wind being blamed for the accident.

July 2nd 2019: Experienced a technical issue that resulted in reduced power to one of the ship’s propellers as it was sailing down the River Thames.
