Steel twin Azimuth motor vessel built in 2009 by Estaleiros Navais de Viano do Costelo, Viana do Castelo, Portugal (Yard No 258) as Roll-On/Roll-Off carrier – Ferry.

History

November 14th 2007: Keel laid.

March 5th 2008: Launched.

July 1st 2009: Completed as ATLANTIDA for delivery to Atlanticoline SA, Ponta Delgada, Portugal but Atlantico refused delivery because the ship failed to meet speed requirements.  So she laid-up for sale.

October 2014: Reported sale to Venezuelan Government the plan being to convert her with 156 berths to an expedition cruise ship for the Amazon River. These plans never materialised and, in early-2015, the ship was re-advertised for sale.

2014: Registered Owner: Douro Azul SA.

June 25th 2015: Sold to Hurtigruten A / S, Tromsö. Norway and renamed NORWAY EXPLORER .

July 1st 2015: Left Viana do Castelo for Landskrona.

July 6th 2015: Arrived Oresund Heavy Industries, Landskrona for conversion.

November 6th 2015: Left Landskrona for Fosen Yard, Rissa, Norway.

June 2016: Renamed SPITSBERGEN .

June 20th 2016: Left Rissa for Bergen.

June 21st 2016: Left Bergen for Kirkenes.

July 6th 2016: Christened in Svolvaer.
