Brittany Ferries is the trading name of Bretagne Angleterre Irlande SA (BAI), a French shipping company that operates a fleet of ferries and cruise ferries between France, the United Kingdom, Ireland, and Spain, and directly between the United Kingdom and Spain. The company was founded in 1972 by a cooperative of Breton farmers in an effort to transport their agricultural produce to the UK market. The company currently operates a fleet of nine modern passenger vessels, one high-speed vessel and one chartered RoRo vessel. In December 2016 the company announced that they were to order a new ferry to service the Caen-Portsmouth route.
