Overview


Soc. d’Armement et de Navigation Charles Schiaffino (Schiaffino) were a French shipping company originally founded in 1874. The company entered the RoRo business in the 1970’s operating a freight service from Dover to Ostend. In October 1983 a new service was opened from Ramsgate to Ostend. In February 1984 Schiaffino transferred their operations from Dover to Ramsgate. In 1990 Schiaffino were acquired by the Ramsgate based operator Sally Line. This acquisition gave Sally Line a second route to expand its freight operations and the all important access to a Belgian port.
