Refrigerated Cargo Vessel (Reefer)

A Refrigerated Cargo Vessel (Reefer) is a refrigerated cargo ship, typically used to transport perishable commodities which require temperature-controlled transportation, such as fruit, meat, fish, vegetables, dairy products and other foods. At the Port of Dover the import of tropical fruit is the main cargo. At least 25% of UK imported bananas come through Dover and with the construction of the new Dover Cargo Terminal at the Western Docks this is set to rise.
